The Chef de Salle in a fencing studio was a senior student appointed by the master to maintain order and enforce regulations. The master’s time is much better spent teaching rather than making sure students were dressed to code, welcoming visitors, facilitating breaks, or maintaining order in the salle. The Chef de Salle foil is built for this senior student and enforcer. A minimal figure eight guard reflects the skill already attained by the user.
A refined and honed Benjamin Arms blade makes the weapon extremely precise in a trained hand. The Chef de Salle would be the first student into the studio, and the last one out. They were expected to work hard and stay on the floor the longest. We’ve put a 5 & ½” flared French, leather wrapped grip on this weapon to be one of the most comfortable for extended use.
