Case of Épées

Standing down isn't an option anymore.  Your seconds have exhausted all other means of negotiating your offence and the grievance now needs to be settled by armed combat.  Your seconds and your challenger's seconds have agreed upon the use of épées for the duel as you both have skill in the weapon.

At dawn, after a day and night settling your affairs and praying, you arrive at the grounds.  The seconds remove the weapons from their case, and hand them for inspection to the director of combat.  He makes sure the weapons are equal in every way:  Their guards have to offer the same protection, they have to handle identically, they can't favor right-handers or left-handers, their blades have to be the same length and they have to be able to fit anyone's hand.  No combatant can have any advantage, by virtue of the weapon, over the other.  Deemed worthy to equalize the duelists, the doctor sterilizes the blades and hands them off to each pair of seconds.  Your seconds hand you the purified & needle- sharp sword.  To the director's call: on guard.

Benjamin Arms is pleased to build and present the Case of Épées.  True to cases of antiquity, these two matched epees are meticulously made identical to each other.  A case of dueling swords would dent your coffers and were typically only available to the upper class.  They would be commissioned out of the finest parts and materials available.  As such, Benjamin Arms' Case of Épées built with matched parts and #5 blades.  Our spun circular guards, similar in size to the guards typically mounted on dueling swords of the 18th and 19th centuries, sit with a black cushioned épée pad and black three finger leather martingale behind it.  As case weapons had to be equalizing and accommodating, we build ours with ambidextrous or beveled French 5 & 1/4" grips.  Case weapons were top of the line, so we build ours only in high grade ebony hardwood or ray skin wrappings.  Our decorative faceted urn pommels secure the weapons together and finish making these weapons a stunning matched pair.

Our Case of Épées is a point of pride as the practice of western martial fencing became primarily the art of single combat in a duel.  The application a Case of Épées was intended for is our basis for business.
We put extreme care in the fabrication of these weapons, and will not let them be unprotected.  These weapons are called a ‘case’ because we fit them in a solid hardwood box. Our owner makes each box by hand. The two weapons fit snuggly in crushed velvet moldings and can be viewed through a clear UV inhibited glass window. The case door hinges shut and can lock with brass hardware.

True to heritage, these weapons can be sharpened upon request.  If requested sharpened, we will e-mail the purchaser a disclaimer form ensuring the purchaser's age and requiring wet signature with postal mail back to Benjamin Arms before we ship the Case.

The Case of Épées is the absolute end all and be all of classical dueling.  We're proud to offer the fencing community the epitome of their art.
